The home of boating activity on Lough Swilly co. Donegal!!!
A striking feature of boating activity on Lough Swilly is the underdeveloped potential for dinghy sailing. This is despite the magnificent resource that Lough Swilly offers, a sizeable fringing population and an active sailing fraternity in LSYC. Many of our members children are getting to an age that unless they get actively hooked on sailing soon an opportunity will be lost and they will be diverted to other activities. It would be beneficial therefore to re-establish dinghy sailing as a core activity of the Yacht Club. It will be good for members families, good for the yacht club, good for boating in general and also ensure another generation of sailors for the future.
Paul McSorley (Rear Commodore) has expressed great interest in reviving dinghy sailing in the Swilly. Plans will start from small beginnings. To get this going a group of dedicated parents and members are needed to push forward a dinghy programme for this coming season. A number of members have agreed to undertake powerboat training with a view to manning the rescue boat and it is hoped to have a course organised within the next few weeks. All interested members please get in touch with Paul to organise a meeting before opening day (27 April). This will be an exciting venture for the coming year and your support will be greatly appreciated.
